Our USA epidemic of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) affects 40 percent of adults. It's becoming more frequent. The check-valve in our lower esophagus fails (we have yet to understand why this occurs so often). Regurgitation of bile and hydrochloric acid results. This can cause heartburn, indigestion or acid taste.
